Verdict
Large diesel SUV with 5 or 7 seats, fitted with all-wheel drive with a transfer case. It has not been tested by Euro NCAP, and few sourced reliability reports exist: minor electronic faults have been reported, and a recall for a cooling fan fuse was issued in Australia (2020-2024). Buy only with a complete service history and after checking recalls against the serial number.

Known faults
Electronic faults (cameras, air conditioning)
Severity 1/3 · AnnoyingA Polish used-car guide considers the electronics of the Y400 "temperamental over small faults", rarely critical. Australian owners mention camera faults and the replacement of the air-conditioning compressor, covered by warranty.

Recall: cooling fan fuse
Manufacturer recallAn Australian recall (2025 campaign) concerns Musso and Rexton cars from 2020-2024: a manufacturing defect can cause the engine cooling fan fuse to fail, with a risk of overheating and sudden loss of traction. The recall covers vehicles delivered in Australia; our sources do not establish whether it applies to vehicles sold in France, so the serial number should be checked with a network repairer.
Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Manufacturer recalls

Real monthly cost
Fuel, insurance, maintenance and depreciation, excluding finance. Move the slider to match your mileage. How it is calculated
| Fuel or electricity | €216 |
|---|---|
| Insurance | €105 |
| Maintenance | €26 |
| Depreciation | €220 |
| Total per month | €567 |
⚠ Estimates to treat with caution
- NEDC consumption (older, more optimistic than WLTP) as no WLTP figure is published: fuel is probably slightly underestimated.
- Maintenance: published servicing price plus an estimated allowance for tyres and brakes.
- Depreciation estimated at 12% of the median price a year, as no year-by-year valuation is usable.
Calculation details (12,000 km a year)
- Fuel (diesel)€216
2.2 e-XDi 181 boîte automatique version: combined consumption of 8 L/100 km, increased by 15% for real-world driving, at 2.347 €/L, for 1,000 km a month.
8 × 1.15 × 2.347 € × 10 = €216
Diesel price: French national average on 7 October 2026.
- Insurance€105
Average monthly premium published for this model by insurance comparison sites (comprehensive cover when stated). Your premium depends on your profile.
- Maintenance€26
Servicing and wear parts (tyres, brakes) for 12,000 km a year, per month.
- Depreciation€220
Value lost in a year by a typical example, from the valuation gap between two years, per month.

Things to check
- Have the serial number checked for manufacturer recalls and campaigns, in particular the cooling fan.
- Require a complete service book: the AutoKarma guide stresses the importance of servicing discipline (oil, particulate filter, EGR, automatic gearbox oil).
- Automatic gearbox: complete test drive, warm and cold, to detect jerks or hesitant responses.
- Test cameras, parking sensors, air conditioning and screen.
- Check the operation of the all-wheel drive and the low-range gear (transfer case) during a test drive.
Questions to ask the seller
- Has the cooling fan recall (or any other campaign) been checked and handled?
- At what intervals were the engine oil and automatic gearbox oil changed, and with which invoices?
- Has the vehicle been used mainly for short trips or for towing?
Test-drive tip: read the fault codes
A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.

Before paying, check the administrative status (lien, objection, declared claims) and the mileage recorded at the roadworthiness test.
Read fault codes
An OBD scanner plugged in under the steering wheel shows stored fault codes, even with warning lights off: useful during the test drive.
