Verdict
Large family car (liftback saloon and Combi estate), very spacious, rated 5 stars by Euro NCAP in 2015. On a used car, the points to check are mainly the emissions system of the 2.0 TDI (AdBlue, EGR, particulate filter), the dry-clutch DSG gearbox paired with the 1.4 TSI and, on the iV plug-in hybrid, the charging connection and a high-voltage fuse recall. A complete maintenance history is essential.

Known faults
AdBlue system: clogged injector, pump and sensors (2.0 TDI)
Severity 2/3 · CostlyAutodoc reports that the 2.0 TDI engines of 150 and 190 hp (2009 to 2018) can suffer AdBlue problems, clogged injectors or a faulty pump, generally between 80,000 and 120,000 km. Carverif advises against a car whose AdBlue warning light stays on, and cites, as benchmarks for the VAG family rather than Superb quotes, repairs of 400 to 1,300 euros and an injector at 1,000-1,200 euros.

Clogged or faulty EGR cooler and particulate filter (2.0 TDI)
Severity 2/3 · CostlyAu7o classes the failure of the EGR system and particulate filter of the 2.0 TDI among the critical faults of the Superb, which he attributes to motorway use. A faulty EGR cooler can let coolant into the intake. Carverif recommends having the EGR and the FAP checked before buying, especially on the 190 hp.

DSG dry-clutch gearbox jerks and faults (1.4 TSI)
Severity 2/3 · CostlyAu7o states that the DSG 7 dry-clutch gearbox (DQ200) paired with the 1.4 TSI can develop dual-clutch and mechatronics faults: whistling or jerks on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts, or even limp mode. Carverif cites a testimony of jerks in town on a 2018 version and recommends testing the DSG both cold and warm. This is not a generalised fault: a test drive and the gearbox's maintenance history will tell.

Charging connection locking and charging faults (iV)
Severity 1/3 · AnnoyingOn the Superb iV, the mechanism that locks the charging cable did not engage properly on a test car followed by Fleet News, and the part was replaced. CarChecker reports several weak points in the charging system, as well as a 12 V battery that discharges quickly when the car is parked.

High-voltage fuse recall (iV, fire risk)
Manufacturer recallSkoda recall 93O5 concerns the Superb iV and Octavia iV built between 2019 and 2022: a high-voltage system fuse can be defective and malfunction in the event of a power surge, with a risk of fire. The remedy is fitting an insulating mat on the battery switch box. Skoda describes it as a preventive action, with no fire recorded. Check the VIN with a dealer to confirm that the recall has been carried out.
Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Real monthly cost
Fuel, insurance, maintenance and depreciation, excluding finance. Move the slider to match your mileage. How it is calculated
| Fuel or electricity | €111 |
|---|---|
| Insurance | €89 |
| Maintenance | €47 |
| Depreciation | €229 |
| Total per month | €476 |
⚠ Estimates to treat with caution
- NEDC consumption (older, more optimistic than WLTP) as no WLTP figure is published: fuel is probably slightly underestimated.
- Insurance: brand average, as no average is published for this model.
- Maintenance: published servicing price plus an estimated allowance for tyres and brakes.
- Depreciation estimated at 12% of the median price a year, as no year-by-year valuation is usable.
Calculation details (12,000 km a year)
- Fuel (diesel)€111
2.0 TDI 150 manuelle version: combined consumption of 4.1 L/100 km, increased by 15% for real-world driving, at 2.347 €/L, for 1,000 km a month.
4.1 × 1.15 × 2.347 € × 10 = €111
Diesel price: French national average on 7 October 2026.
- Insurance€89
Average monthly premium published for this model by insurance comparison sites (comprehensive cover when stated). Your premium depends on your profile.
- Maintenance€47
Servicing and wear parts (tyres, brakes) for 12,000 km a year, per month.
- Depreciation€229
Value lost in a year by a typical example, from the valuation gap between two years, per month.

Things to check
- Note the VIN and ask a Škoda dealer for the list of recalls carried out (Takata airbags for some 2015-2018 cars according to Carverif; high-voltage fuse on the iV).
- Diesel: read the fault codes and refuse a car with the AdBlue warning light on; ask for proof of AdBlue, EGR, particulate filter and timing belt work.
- DSG gearbox: test cold and then warm, in town and on the road, to detect jerks or whistling; ask for the gearbox oil change invoices.
- Diesel 150 and 190 hp: ask whether the clutch or the flywheel has been replaced (Carverif reports testimonies about the flywheel).
- iV hybrid: test charging on a Type 2 socket (cable locking) and check the boot, which is reduced by the battery.
Questions to ask the seller
- What is the exact engine and gearbox, and can we see the complete maintenance history (oil changes, timing, DSG gearbox)?
- Has the AdBlue system, the EGR or the particulate filter been repaired? Do you have the invoices?
- Have all the manufacturer's recalls been carried out at Skoda, including, for the iV, the high-voltage fuse recall?
Test-drive tip: read the fault codes
A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.
