1.4 TSI 150 DSG

  1. DSG dry-clutch gearbox jerks and faults (1.4 TSI)

    Severity 2/3 · Costly

Au7o states that the DSG 7 dry-clutch gearbox (DQ200) paired with the 1.4 TSI can develop dual-clutch and mechatronics faults: whistling or jerks on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts, or even limp mode. Carverif cites a testimony of jerks in town on a 2018 version and recommends testing the DSG both cold and warm. This is not a generalised fault: a test drive and the gearbox's maintenance history will tell.

2.0 TDI 150 manuelle

  1. From 80,000 km

AdBlue system: clogged injector, pump and sensors (2.0 TDI)

    Severity 2/3 · Costly

Autodoc reports that the 2.0 TDI engines of 150 and 190 hp (2009 to 2018) can suffer AdBlue problems, clogged injectors or a faulty pump, generally between 80,000 and 120,000 km. Carverif advises against a car whose AdBlue warning light stays on, and cites, as benchmarks for the VAG family rather than Superb quotes, repairs of 400 to 1,300 euros and an injector at 1,000-1,200 euros.

  2. Clogged or faulty EGR cooler and particulate filter (2.0 TDI)

    Severity 2/3 · Costly

Au7o classes the failure of the EGR system and particulate filter of the 2.0 TDI among the critical faults of the Superb, which he attributes to motorway use. A faulty EGR cooler can let coolant into the intake. Carverif recommends having the EGR and the FAP checked before buying, especially on the 190 hp.

iV 1.4 TSI 218 DSG

  1. Charging connection locking and charging faults (iV)

    Severity 1/3 · Annoying

On the Superb iV, the mechanism that locks the charging cable did not engage properly on a test car followed by Fleet News, and the part was replaced. CarChecker reports several weak points in the charging system, as well as a 12 V battery that discharges quickly when the car is parked.

  2. High-voltage fuse recall (iV, fire risk)

    Manufacturer recall

Skoda recall 93O5 concerns the Superb iV and Octavia iV built between 2019 and 2022: a high-voltage system fuse can be defective and malfunction in the event of a power surge, with a risk of fire. The remedy is fitting an insulating mat on the battery switch box. Skoda describes it as a preventive action, with no fire recorded. Check the VIN with a dealer to confirm that the recall has been carried out.

Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Read fault codes

An OBD scanner plugged in under the steering wheel shows stored fault codes, even with warning lights off: useful during the test drive.
