Verdict
Large hybrid SUV rated 5 stars at Euro NCAP in 2022 (around 90% adults, 87% children). The sources consulted show no recurring mechanical fault; the points noted are the 12 V battery, which can discharge after a period of immobilisation, and a French recall of poorly soldered front camera housings (RX 450h+ and 500h), whose completion should be checked.

12 V battery that discharges
Severity 1/3 · AnnoyingFor the 2023 RX 350h, the first category of complaints recorded by CarComplaints is electrical, led by a flat battery after a period of immobilisation; Auto Reliability Index also cites the 12 V battery as the most frequent problem with hybrids. Owner testimonies, mostly North American: no manufacturer confirmation in the sources consulted.

Recall: poorly soldered front camera housings
Manufacturer recallFrench campaign 24SD-065 (around 1,868 cars): on part of the 2022-2023 production, including RX 450h+ and 500h, the front camera housings may have been poorly soldered; water can get in over time and cause a short circuit. The network checks the soldering and replaces the camera and its housing if necessary. Check the serial number with a Lexus dealership.
Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Inspection checklist
Lexus RX V — inspection checklist
Things to check
- Check with the serial number, at a Lexus dealership, that the front camera recall (24SD-065) and other campaigns have been carried out.
- Check the condition and date of the 12 V battery; make sure the car starts after several days of immobilisation.
- Test the cameras (front, reversing, panoramic view) and the infotainment screen.
- Plug-in hybrid: ask for the charging history and check the supplied charging cable.
- RX 500h: check the displayed fuel consumption and the upkeep of the automatic gearbox.
Questions to ask the seller
- Have the Lexus recalls (front cameras in particular) been carried out? Do you have the proof?
- Has the 12 V battery already been replaced, or has the car been left standing flat?
- For the 450h+: was it charged regularly, and how often?
Test-drive tip: read the fault codes
A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.
