Verdict
Korean SUV with a large boot (551 L) and a 5-star Euro NCAP rating in 2019, offered with a 1.5 turbo petrol, a 1.6 diesel and the e-Motion electric version. Little reliability data has been published: the British press reports no major problem, but the 2019-2020 diesels are affected by a recall for a fuel supply hose (fire risk), which should be checked before buying.

Known faults
Cracked fuel supply hose (diesel recall)
Manufacturer recallRecall of diesel Korando models (engine D16DTF): a micro-crack can appear on the fuel supply hose after prolonged use, with a risk of leaks and fire. A campaign is documented for Korando C300 cars of model years 2019-2020 (Australia) and was reported in a European recall database for production from 22 March 2019 to 7 June 2020. Replacing the hose is free at the dealership; check that the work has been done.
Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

- Maintenance: published servicing price plus an estimated allowance for tyres and brakes.
- Depreciation estimated at 12% of the median price a year, as no year-by-year valuation is usable.

Inspection checklist

Things to check
- Diesel 2019-2020: ask for proof that the fuel supply hose has been replaced (recall) by a SsangYong dealer, with the serial number.
- Check the service book and invoices: the network is limited, so continuity of servicing is a key point.
- Electric version: test a full charge and a fast charge, and check that charging does not stop midway.
- Electric version: check the remaining battery warranty with the brand.
- Road test: real-world consumption, suspension noises and the operation of the automatic gearbox where fitted.
Questions to ask the seller
- Has the fuel hose recall been carried out on this diesel? Do you have the proof?
- Has the servicing been done within the SsangYong network, with invoices?
- For the e-Motion: how was it charged (at home, fast chargers) and were there any interruptions during charging?
Test-drive tip: read the fault codes
A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.
