Monthly cost by item
Fuel or electricity€97
Insurance€70
Maintenance€32
Depreciation€99
Total per month€298

⚠ Estimates to treat with caution

  • NEDC consumption (older, more optimistic than WLTP) as no WLTP figure is published: fuel is probably slightly underestimated.
  • Maintenance: published servicing price plus an estimated allowance for tyres and brakes.
  • Depreciation estimated at 12% of the median price a year, as no year-by-year valuation is usable.
Calculation details (12,000 km a year)
Fuel (diesel)€97

1.5 dCi 90 version: combined consumption of 3.6 L/100 km, increased by 15% for real-world driving, at 2.347 €/L, for 1,000 km a month.

3.6 × 1.15 × 2.347 € × 10 = €97

Inspection checklist

Things to check

  • 1.2 TCe 120: check the oil level, that there is no spare oil bottle in the boot, and the build date (problem recorded up to 11/05/2016 by L'argus).
  • 1.2 TCe 120: ask whether the engine reprogramming has been carried out at a dealer, and insist on service invoices, which are essential for any goodwill repair.
  • Have a Renault dealer check, using the serial number, the recall campaigns and updates still to be done.
  • EDC gearbox: test it cold and then warm, in town, to check the smoothness of gear changes.
  • Check the service book and the regularity of oil changes.

Questions to ask the seller

  • How much oil does the engine use between oil changes?
  • Do you have all the service invoices, with the references of the oil used?
  • Has the engine been reprogrammed, repaired or replaced by Renault?

Test-drive tip: read the fault codes

A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.
