Verdict

Buy with care

City car with a 300-litre boot, rated 4 stars by Euro NCAP as standard and 5 with the optional safety pack. A European recall concerns the passenger airbag of cars built between October 2016 and November 2017: have it checked using the serial number. Early feedback from Caradisiac reported no recurring fault, but I found no recent and reliable fault statistics specific to this model.

Known faults

Recall: passenger airbag that can tear

Manufacturer recall

A European alert (Rapex A12/00067/19, manufacturer code PY8B3) concerns the passenger airbag, which can crack or tear on deployment and increase the risk of injury in an accident. The Micras concerned were built between 1 October 2016 and 14 November 2017. The dealer can say, from the serial number, whether a recall is open or has been carried out.

Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Real monthly cost

Fuel, insurance, maintenance and depreciation, excluding finance. Move the slider to match your mileage. How it is calculated

Monthly cost by item
Fuel or electricity€130
Insurance€64
Maintenance€17
Depreciation€125
Total per month€336

⚠ Estimates to treat with caution

  • Consumption taken from a published range (depends on trim and tyres).
  • Maintenance: servicing prices only, without tyres or brakes: probably underestimated.
  • Depreciation estimated at 12% of the median price a year, as no year-by-year valuation is usable.
Calculation details (12,000 km a year)
Fuel (petrol)€130

0.9 IG-T 90 version: combined consumption of 5.3 L/100 km, increased by 15% for real-world driving, at 2.14 €/L, for 1,000 km a month.

5.3 × 1.15 × 2.14 € × 10 = €130

Petrol price (SP95-E10): French national average on 7 October 2026.

Consumption: technical data for the version (sources at the bottom of the guide).

Insurance€64

Average monthly premium published for this model by insurance comparison sites (comprehensive cover when stated). Your premium depends on your profile.

Maintenance€17

Depreciation€125

Value lost in a year by a typical example, from the valuation gap between two years, per month.

Inspection checklist

Things to check

  • Have a Nissan dealer check with the serial number that the passenger airbag recall has been carried out if the car dates from late 2016 to November 2017.
  • Check whether the car has the safety pack (the rating goes from 4 to 5 stars according to Euro NCAP).
  • Test the 1.0 71 hp: it is judged very underpowered (16.4 s for 0 to 100 km/h), so make sure it suits your needs.
  • Xtronic gearbox (1.0 IG-T 100): test the acceleration and the smoothness of the continuously variable gearbox.
  • Check the service book and invoices.

Questions to ask the seller

  • Has the passenger airbag recall been carried out? Do you have proof?
  • Does the car have the Euro NCAP safety pack?
  • Has the servicing been followed, with invoices?

Test-drive tip: read the fault codes

A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.
