Known faults

Instrument cluster screen stays black (recall)

Manufacturer recall

A software programming fault in the instrument cluster can corrupt a memory and leave the 12.3-inch display black at start-up, with no speedometer or information shown. The recall (in Australia: LBX built from 01/12/2023 to 11/11/2024) is fixed by a software update at a Lexus dealer; check the VIN.

Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

⚠ Estimates to treat with caution

  • Consumption taken from a published range (depends on trim and tyres).
  • Maintenance: published servicing price plus an estimated allowance for tyres and brakes.
  • Maintenance: budget of a closely related model.
  • Depreciation estimated at 12% of the median price a year, as no year-by-year valuation is usable.

Inspection checklist

Things to check

  • Check with a Lexus dealer, using the VIN, that the instrument cluster recall has been carried out.
  • At start-up, check that the cluster display switches on properly every time.
  • Test the reversing camera and the parking aids.
  • Check the 12 V battery, the sensors and the software updates, points to watch flagged by Fiches-auto.
  • Measure the boot of the version on offer: the spec sheets differ (332 L in 2WD, 240 L in 4WD according to L'argus).

Questions to ask the seller

  • Has the instrument cluster recall been carried out? Do you have proof of a visit to Lexus?
  • Is it the 2WD or the 4WD version, and what is the servicing history?
  • Has there been any display, camera or 12 V battery problem?

Test-drive tip: read the fault codes

A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.
