Verdict
A compact SUV with very good crash protection (5 Euro NCAP stars in 2011), but Autocar considers it not very reliable and advises paying more for a car with a full service history. The weak points are the 9-speed automatic gearbox (software) and, on the 2.0 Ingenium diesel introduced in 2015, the timing chain and the particulate filter.

Known faults
2.0 Ingenium diesel timing chain
Severity 2/3 · CostlyAutocar reports a weak timing chain on the 2.0 diesel, "much less reliable" than the older 2.2. Car Checker also lists timing chain and oil dilution problems on the 2.0 TD4. A stretched chain can damage the engine; a rattle is a warning sign.

9-speed automatic gearbox: harsh shifts and software
Severity 1/3 · AnnoyingThe 9-speed ZF gearbox (from late 2013) can shift abruptly, hesitate when pulling away or hesitate between gears. Land Rover released software updates for the gearbox control unit on 2014-2015 Evoques (NHTSA bulletins); Autocar notes that automatic gearbox problems are fairly common, ranging from a software fault to the gearbox itself.

Fuel, insurance, maintenance and depreciation, excluding finance. Move the slider to match your mileage. How it is calculated
| Fuel or electricity | €192 |
|---|---|
| Insurance | €72 |
| Maintenance | €36 |
| Depreciation | €154 |
| Total per month | €454 |
⚠ Estimates to treat with caution
- NEDC consumption (older, more optimistic than WLTP) as no WLTP figure is published: fuel is probably slightly underestimated.
- Insurance: brand average, as no average is published for this model.
- Maintenance: published servicing price plus an estimated allowance for tyres and brakes.
- Depreciation estimated at 12% of the median price a year, as no year-by-year valuation is usable.
Calculation details (12,000 km a year)
- Fuel (petrol)€192
2.0 Si4 240 BVA9 version: combined consumption of 7.8 L/100 km, increased by 15% for real-world driving, at 2.14 €/L, for 1,000 km a month.
7.8 × 1.15 × 2.14 € × 10 = €192
Petrol price (SP95-E10): French national average on 7 October 2026.

Inspection checklist
Land Rover Range Rover Evoque I — inspection checklist
Things to check
- 2.0 Ingenium diesel: listen to the engine when cold (timing chain rattle) and ask whether the chain has already been replaced.
- Check the oil level and smell (risk of diesel dilution on the 2.0 diesel).
- Automatic gearbox: extended test drive, jerks, hesitation when pulling away; ask whether the gearbox software is up to date at a Land Rover dealer.
- Insist on the full service book: Autocar advises paying more for a car with a full service history.
- Have a diagnostic scan and a pre-purchase inspection carried out by a garage.
Questions to ask the seller
- Have the timing chain and the particulate filter already been replaced? Do you have the invoices?
- Were the automatic gearbox software updates carried out at Land Rover?
- Is the servicing complete and carried out within the dealer network?
Test-drive tip: read the fault codes
A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.
