5 known faults

1.5 EcoBoost 160

  1. 12 V battery leak: overheating and fire risk

    Manufacturer recall

In 2019, Ford recalled around 322,000 Mondeo, S-Max and Galaxy vehicles built between February 2014 and February 2019: acid could leak near the negative terminal of the starter battery and disable the battery monitoring sensor, with a risk of overheating. The fix involves fitting an intermediate cable with a fuse at the dealership.

Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

    Versions
    1.5 EcoBoost 160, 2.0 EcoBlue 150 manuelle, 2.0 EcoBlue 150 BVA8, 2.0 EcoBlue 190 AWD, 2.5 Hybrid 190

  2. Corroded rear suspension arm bolts

    Manufacturer recall

Ford campaign 20S75 concerns Galaxy models built between 20 January 2015 and 18 February 2020: the original rear suspension arm bolts are prone to corrosion and can fail, impairing steering control and increasing the risk of an accident. The recall does not cover every vehicle from this period: check with the serial number at a dealership.

Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

  3. Wet timing belt of the 2.0 EcoBlue

    Severity 3/3 · Serious

On the 2.0 EcoBlue, the timing belt works in oil. According to Dayco (cited by Autobiz), dilution of the oil by diesel is not uncommon and can degrade the belt; in extreme cases, fragments can clog the oil pump pickup. CarChecker recommends, for the Galaxy, checking before purchase whether the belt has been replaced.

Ford identified a batch of high-pressure injectors that did not meet its quality requirements, fitted to 2.0 EcoBlue engines built between 25 February and 13 September 2019; the Galaxy is among the models listed. Symptoms: misfires and reduced performance. Affected vehicles are dealt with by a Ford dealership.
