Verdict

Buy with care

Compact city car with a 225 L boot, available as 4x4 and Cross, which the press mainly recommends in 1.2 69 hp manual. Its safety is weak: 4 Euro NCAP stars in 2011, then zero stars in the new 2018 test. The TwinAir (oil, turbo), the Dualogic gearbox and the particulate filter of the 1.3 Multijet diesel in urban use are the points to watch.

Known faults

Wear of the TwinAir turbo wastegate

Severity 2/3 · Costly

Owners of the Panda TwinAir report a degraded mode caused by play in the wastegate actuator. The worn wastegate pin cannot be replaced separately: the turbo or the manifold must be overhauled or replaced.

TwinAir oil consumption

Severity 2/3 · Costly

Owners of the 0.9 TwinAir report high oil consumption, with engines that are not very tight. The level must be closely monitored; Carverif also cites the turbo and coils to check.

Temperamental Dualogic automated gearbox

Severity 2/3 · Costly

Owners of the Panda Dualogic describe unexpected drops into neutral and gear changes that are slow, sometimes despite a clutch replacement or a software update. One adviser mentions the actuator, whose replacement can be costly, and Capcar mentions jolts at low speed.

Clogged particulate filter (1.3 Multijet)

Severity 2/3 · Costly

The particulate filter of the 1.3 Multijet regenerates poorly on short journeys, with loss of power, an emissions warning light or even a degraded mode. A garage quotes 180 to 320 euros in labour, excluding parts, for replacement; Auto Plus, cited by Carverif, mentions 6,000 euros of engine damage linked to the particulate filter in town.

Manufacturer recalls

See the official list on RappelConso (new tab) (French government recall site: category “Automobiles et moyens de déplacement”, search “Fiat Panda”). A dealer for the brand can also check, using the vehicle identification number (VIN), that recalls have been carried out.

Real monthly cost

Fuel, insurance, maintenance and depreciation, excluding finance. Move the slider to match your mileage. How it is calculated

Monthly cost by item
Fuel or electricity€140
Insurance€48
Maintenance€17
Depreciation€94
Total per month€299

⚠ Estimates to treat with caution

  • NEDC consumption (older, more optimistic than WLTP) as no WLTP figure is published: fuel is probably slightly underestimated.
  • Maintenance: servicing prices only, without tyres or brakes: probably underestimated.
  • Depreciation estimated at 12% of the median price a year, as no year-by-year valuation is usable.
Calculation details (12,000 km a year)
Fuel (petrol)€140

1.2 69 version: combined consumption of 5.7 L/100 km, increased by 15% for real-world driving, at 2.14 €/L, for 1,000 km a month.

5.7 × 1.15 × 2.14 € × 10 = €140

Petrol price (SP95-E10): French national average on 7 October 2026.

Insurance€48

Average monthly premium published for this model by insurance comparison sites (comprehensive cover when stated). Your premium depends on your profile.

Maintenance€17

Servicing and wear parts (tyres, brakes) for 12,000 km a year, per month.

Depreciation€94

Value lost in a year by a typical example, from the valuation gap between two years, per month.

Inspection checklist

Things to check

  • TwinAir: check the oil level when cold, listen to the turbo and look for an engine warning light or a degraded mode.
  • Dualogic: take an extended test drive in town and on a hill; refuse any jolt, drop into neutral or late gear change.
  • Diesel 1.3 Multijet: ask how it has been used (town or road) and check there is no emissions warning light.
  • 1.2 LPG: ask for the kit invoice and the installer, and check the real boot volume.
  • Have a Fiat dealership check, with the serial number at hand, which recalls have been carried out.
  • Require the service book and the oil change invoices.

Questions to ask the seller

  • Does the car consume oil between oil changes?
  • Has the Dualogic gearbox or the particulate filter already been repaired or cleaned? Do you have the invoices?
  • Have all the manufacturer's recalls been carried out?

Test-drive tip: read the fault codes

A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.
