Known faults

Recall: non-compliant turbo oil hose (leak and fire risk)

Manufacturer recall

The turbo oil supply hose may have an external nick and reduced wall thickness, not compliant with Ferrari's drawings, creating a risk of oil leaks and, if an ignition source is present, fire. NHTSA recall 23V-698 (17 October 2023): 614 vehicles, 2022–2024 SF90 Stradale and Spider built from 7 November 2022 to 19 September 2023. Ferrari asks owners not to use the vehicles until the hoses are replaced free of charge, and stated it had received no reports of fire or leaks.

Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Recall: passenger airbag and child seat (size M seat)

Manufacturer recall

On size M passenger seats, airbag deployment may strike a child seat and cause injuries. NHTSA recall 23V-136 (8 June 2023): 13 vehicles, 2021–2023 SF90 coupés and 2022 SF90 Spiders, built from 11 January 2021 to 3 November 2022. The remedy is to replace the seat with an XL-size seat; in the meantime, do not use a child seat.

Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Inspection checklist

Things to check

  • Have the VIN checked with a Ferrari dealer for the turbo oil hose recall (NHTSA 23V-698) and, for the cars concerned, the passenger seat recall (23V-136).
  • Require the complete service history at the Ferrari network and proof of the recalls carried out.
  • Have the hybrid system (high-voltage battery, electric motors) and the fault codes checked by a Ferrari specialist.
  • Check the charging and the electric mode (announced WLTP range of 25 km).
  • Spider: test the opening and closing of the retractable hard top.

Questions to ask the seller

  • Have all the Ferrari safety recalls been carried out? Can you provide proof?
  • Does the car have a complete service history at the Ferrari network?
  • Has the high-voltage battery been diagnosed or serviced?

Test-drive tip: read the fault codes

A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.
