Verdict
Mid-engined sports car with a 663 hp 3.0 twin-turbo V6 combined with a 167 hp electric motor for 830 hp in total, an 8-speed automated gearbox and an electric range of 25 km on the WLTP cycle (Automobile Propre). Two safety recalls affect it (corroded fuel line on 2022-2023 296s, oil filter nut on some July 2025 cars), both with an NHTSA advice not to drive the car until it is repaired. Check that they have been carried out before buying.

Known faults
Recall: corroded fuel line (risk of leak)
Manufacturer recallFerrari found corrosion on the fuel line connecting the tank, which is made of aluminium and rests against the high-voltage battery cover (glass and stainless steel). The line can be pierced, causing a fuel leak with a fire risk if an ignition source is present. NHTSA recall 23V-329: 425 vehicles, 296 GTB 2022-2023 and 296 GTS 2023, built from March 2021 to April 2023. Ferrari had recorded no fires or leaks as of the date of the report (8 May 2023).
Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Recall: turbo oil filter nut not tightened correctly
Manufacturer recallA semi-automatic tightening station at a supplier may have applied the wrong torque to the oil filter connector nut on the turbo oil supply lines, which can cause an oil leak and a risk of a thermal event. NHTSA recall 25V-716 (21 October 2025): 6 vehicles, 296 GTBs built from 8 to 22 July 2025 and 296 GTSs built from 9 to 24 July 2025.
Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Inspection checklist

Things to check
- Have a Ferrari dealer check the VIN for the fuel line recall (NHTSA 23V-329) and, for cars built in July 2025, the oil filter nut recall (NHTSA 25V-716).
- Ask for the full service history and proof that the recalls have been carried out.
- Have a Ferrari specialist check the condition of the high-voltage battery and the fault codes of the hybrid system.
- Check the charging and the electric range (WLTP electric range claimed at 25 km) and that the electric mode works properly (Automobile Propre).
Questions to ask the seller
- Have all the Ferrari safety recalls been carried out? Can you provide the proof?
- Does the car have a complete service history with the Ferrari network?
- Has the high-voltage battery been diagnosed or repaired?
Test-drive tip: read the fault codes
A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.
