Verdict
American sports car as a coupé or convertible, with a naturally aspirated 6.2 L V8 (Stingray, Grand Sport) or a supercharged one (Z06). The documented sensitive points are the AFM lifters of the LT1 V8, overheating in track use on the Z06, and cracked wheels on the Z06 and Grand Sport. Ask for a full history and check recalls with the VIN.

Known faults
Faulty AFM lifters on the LT1 V8
Severity 2/3 · CostlyOn the LT1 V8, owners report knocking from the top of the engine, misfires (codes such as P0300 or P0307) and cylinder deactivation (AFM) lifters that are stuck or collapsed. A faulty lifter can damage the camshaft; the GM bulletin provides, as a last resort, for engine replacement. A buying guide estimates the repair at between $1,500 and $3,000.

Overheating and reduced-power mode in track use (Z06)
Severity 2/3 · CostlyGM describes overheating that can trigger a reduced-power mode during sustained high-speed driving in hot weather, on 2015-2018 Z06s. The warranty has been extended to 7 years or 72,000 miles (about 116,000 km) from first entry into service, regardless of owner; the correction involves an updated radiator and, on automatics, an updated gear-shift software. Several class actions have been filed.

Cracked or warped alloy wheels (Z06 and Grand Sport)
Severity 2/3 · CostlyClass actions have been brought against GM over cracked or warped cast wheels on 2015-2019 Z06s and 2017-2019 Grand Sports, with owners stating that their warranty claims were refused. The proceedings led to a reimbursement programme subject to conditions (The Drive). Check the condition of each wheel.

Fuel filler pipe (2014 recall)
Manufacturer recallA recall concerns 2014 Stingrays whose anti-siphon screen in the fuel filler pipe could be incorrectly positioned; the remedy is replacement of the pipe by the dealer network (Corvette Blogger). CorvSport also reports petrol smells among the most frequent complaints on the C7, and a GM campaign on this pipe. Check the VIN.
Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Real monthly cost
Fuel, insurance, maintenance and depreciation, excluding finance. Move the slider to match your mileage. How it is calculated
| Fuel or electricity | €295 |
|---|---|
| Insurance | €86 |
| Maintenance | €27 |
| Depreciation | €670 |
| Total per month | €1,078 |
⚠ Estimates to treat with caution
- NEDC consumption (older, more optimistic than WLTP) as no WLTP figure is published: fuel is probably slightly underestimated.
- Maintenance: published servicing price plus an estimated allowance for tyres and brakes.
- Depreciation estimated at 12% of the median price a year, as no year-by-year valuation is usable.
Calculation details (12,000 km a year)
- Fuel (petrol)€295
Stingray 6.2 V8 466 ch 7 rapports manuelle version: combined consumption of 12 L/100 km, increased by 15% for real-world driving, at 2.14 €/L, for 1,000 km a month.
12 × 1.15 × 2.14 € × 10 = €295
Petrol price (SP95-E10): French national average on 7 October 2026.
- Insurance€86
Average monthly premium published for this model by insurance comparison sites (comprehensive cover when stated). Your premium depends on your profile.
- Maintenance€27
Servicing and wear parts (tyres, brakes) for 12,000 km a year, per month.
- Depreciation€670
Value lost in a year by a typical example, from the valuation gap between two years, per month.
Inspection checklist
Chevrolet Corvette C7 — inspection checklist
Things to check
- LT1 V8: listen to the engine when cold (knocking from the top of the engine), check there are no ignition faults, and ask whether the AFM lifters have been replaced.
- Z06: ask on what date the car entered service and whether the extended GM warranty (7 years or 72,000 miles) or the updated radiator applies; avoid a car that has been driven on a circuit without history.
- Z06 and Grand Sport: inspect each wheel (cracks, warping) and the tyres.
- 8-speed automatic gearbox: low-speed test drive to detect jerking.
- Have the VIN checked by a representative to verify recalls (fuel filler pipe on 2014 Stingrays).
- Soft top or removable roof: check the seals and the operation.
Questions to ask the seller
- Has the car been driven on a circuit, and is the service history complete?
- Have the AFM lifters, the wheels or the radiator (Z06) been replaced, and under what arrangement?
- Was the car imported from the United States or is it of European specification?
Test-drive tip: read the fault codes
A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.

Alternatives
Before you buy: check and equip
Check the history
Before paying, check the administrative status (lien, objection, declared claims) and the mileage recorded at the roadworthiness test.
Read fault codes
An OBD scanner plugged in under the steering wheel shows stored fault codes, even with warning lights off: useful during the test drive.
