Verdict

Buy with care

Lexus coupé in two versions: the RC 300h hybrid with 223 hp, considered not very sporty by the press, and the RC F with a naturally aspirated 477 hp V8. The model has not been tested by Euro NCAP. Two recalls linked to the fuel pump (RC F 2015-2018, then RC 2015-2022 in 2026) mean you should check with the serial number that the work has been carried out.

Known faults

High-pressure fuel pumps (RC F, recall)

Manufacturer recall

Toyota recalled 2015-2018 Lexus RC F models with 5.0 V8 engines (built from June 2014 to December 2017): a crack can appear in the cover of a high-pressure pump, causing a fuel leak and a risk of fire if an ignition source is present. The pumps are replaced free of charge (US campaign 18V107).

Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Low-pressure fuel pump (2026 recall)

Manufacturer recall

A 2026 US recall (26V222) concerns certain 2015-2022 Lexus RC models: the low-pressure fuel pump, located in the tank, can fail and cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of an accident at high speed. Free replacement with an improved pump once the solution is available. US campaign: check the vehicle's status with a Lexus dealer.

Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Manufacturer recalls

See the official list on RappelConso (new tab) (French government recall site: category “Automobiles et moyens de déplacement”, search “Lexus RC”). A dealer for the brand can also check, using the vehicle identification number (VIN), that recalls have been carried out.

Real monthly cost

Fuel, insurance, maintenance and depreciation, excluding finance. Move the slider to match your mileage. How it is calculated

Monthly cost by item
Fuel or electricity€116
Insurance€96
Maintenance€26
Depreciation€472
Total per month€710

⚠ Estimates to treat with caution

  • NEDC consumption (older, more optimistic than WLTP) as no WLTP figure is published: fuel is probably slightly underestimated.
  • Insurance: brand average, as no average is published for this model.
  • Maintenance: published servicing price plus an estimated allowance for tyres and brakes.
  • Maintenance: budget of a closely related model.
  • Depreciation estimated at 12% of the median price a year, as no year-by-year valuation is usable.
Calculation details (12,000 km a year)
Fuel (petrol)€116

RC 300h version: combined consumption of 4.7 L/100 km, increased by 15% for real-world driving, at 2.14 €/L, for 1,000 km a month.

4.7 × 1.15 × 2.14 € × 10 = €116

Petrol price (SP95-E10): French national average on 7 October 2026.

Insurance€96

Average monthly premium published for this model by insurance comparison sites (comprehensive cover when stated). Your premium depends on your profile.

Depreciation€472

Inspection checklist

Things to check

  • Have a Lexus dealer check, using the serial number, that the fuel pump recalls (RC F 2015-2018 and the 2026 campaign) have been carried out.
  • RC 300h: ask for the full service history, ideally from the Lexus network.
  • Have the hybrid system and traction battery checked before buying.
  • RC F: check the condition of the brakes and monitor the oil level during the test drive.
  • Try the transmission both cold and warm to spot any hesitation or jerking.

Questions to ask the seller

  • Have the fuel pump recalls been carried out? Do you have a certificate?
  • Has the servicing been done in the Lexus network, with invoices?
  • Has the vehicle been used for sporty driving or on a track (especially the RC F)?

Test-drive tip: read the fault codes

A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.

Check the history

Before paying, check the administrative status (lien, objection, declared claims) and the mileage recorded at the roadworthiness test.

Read fault codes

An OBD scanner plugged in under the steering wheel shows stored fault codes, even with warning lights off: useful during the test drive.
