Verdict

Good choice, check first

Large seven-seat people carrier sold in France with the original Mercedes-sourced 2.7 Xdi of 165 hp, replaced in early 2013 by a 2.0 e-XDi of 155 hp. The engine has a good reputation for longevity, but the electronics, the small dealer network and parts availability are the weak points cited. It has never been tested by Euro NCAP. I found no source confirming the sale in France of the second generation (Rodius Turismo, 2013-2019): it is not covered here.

Severity 1/3 · Annoying

Electronics is the most frequently cited weak point: a Complete Car adviser warns that anything with a wire can fail, and Moniteur Automobile lists electronics and after-sales service among the problems most often reported by owners.

Manufacturer recalls

Monthly cost by item
Fuel or electricity€238
Insurance€105
Maintenance€26
Depreciation€58
Total per month€427

⚠ Estimates to treat with caution

  • NEDC consumption (older, more optimistic than WLTP) as no WLTP figure is published: fuel is probably slightly underestimated.
  • Insurance: average for a closely related model (other generation or same platform).
  • Maintenance: published servicing price plus an estimated allowance for tyres and brakes.
  • Depreciation estimated at 12% of the median price a year, as no year-by-year valuation is usable.
Calculation details (12,000 km a year)
Fuel (diesel)€238

270 Xdi 165 manuelle version: combined consumption of 8.8 L/100 km, increased by 15% for real-world driving, at 2.347 €/L, for 1,000 km a month.

8.8 × 1.15 × 2.347 € × 10 = €238

Inspection checklist

Things to check

  • Have a full electronic diagnostic carried out and test all electrical equipment (windows, air conditioning, lighting, locks).
  • Require a documented service history; owners report heavier repairs from around 100,000 km.
  • Automatic gearbox: extended test drive; one owner reports a lock-up in 3rd gear whose cause was never found.
  • Check parts availability and the nearest workshop, as the network is small.
  • Have an independent mechanic inspect it before buying.

Questions to ask the seller

  • What is the complete service history, and with which invoices?
  • Have any electronic or gearbox faults already been repaired, and where?
  • Where was the servicing and repair work done, given the small network?

Test-drive tip: read the fault codes

A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.
