Verdict
Small petrol city car with a 196 L boot, fitted with the three-cylinder 1.0 VTi of 68-69 hp, later 72 hp. L'argus and Fiches-auto cite the clutch as its weak point, especially on gearboxes built up to 2017, and the ETG5 automated gearbox causes jerky shifts. It scored 4 stars at Euro NCAP in 2014.

Real monthly cost
Fuel, insurance, maintenance and depreciation, excluding finance. Move the slider to match your mileage. How it is calculated
| Fuel or electricity | €118 |
|---|---|
| Insurance | €77 |
| Maintenance | €33 |
| Depreciation | €79 |
| Total per month | €307 |
⚠ Estimates to treat with caution
- NEDC consumption (older, more optimistic than WLTP) as no WLTP figure is published: fuel is probably slightly underestimated.
- Maintenance: published servicing price plus an estimated allowance for tyres and brakes.
- Depreciation estimated at 12% of the median price a year, as no year-by-year valuation is usable.
Calculation details (12,000 km a year)
- Fuel (petrol)€118
1.0 VTi 72 BVM5 version: combined consumption of 4.8 L/100 km, increased by 15% for real-world driving, at 2.14 €/L, for 1,000 km a month.
4.8 × 1.15 × 2.14 € × 10 = €118

Inspection checklist

Things to check
- Clutch test: hill start and low-rev pull-away; reject the car if it slips, judders or has difficult gear changes.
- For a car built up to 2017: ask whether the clutch has been replaced, with invoices to back it up.
- On an ETG5: long town test with stops, starts and reverse; no jerk, beep or gearbox warning light should appear.
- Have Peugeot check, using the serial number, which recalls have been carried out (steering column on 2014 cars, rear seatbelts on late-2020 cars).
- Check the condition of the bumpers, panels and wheels (scrapes, kerb damage), a check point cited by What Car?.
Questions to ask the seller
- Has the clutch (or the ETG5 actuator) already been replaced? At what mileage?
- Do you have the service invoices, including oil changes?
- Have the manufacturer's recalls been carried out?
Test-drive tip: read the fault codes
A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.
