Verdict
Small electric city car with a 26.8 kWh usable battery and a WLTP range of 220 to 230 km depending on version, designed mainly for town use. Its Euro NCAP rating is only one star (2021 test). Before buying, check the recalls (rear seat belt, charger unit), corrosion of the rear axle assembly and wheels on early examples, and the condition of the 12 V battery.

Known faults
Rear axle assembly and wheel corrosion
Severity 2/3 · CostlyOn early examples, the rear axle housing reinforcements were not electro-galvanised: this protection has only been applied since 15 November 2022, and owners have found these parts completely rusted. The 14-inch wheels of cars produced until 15 September 2023 may also show rust or cracks. Dacia has not issued a recall; the repair falls under warranty (3 years/100,000 km or anti-corrosion warranty) according to L'argus.

12 V battery discharging when parked
Severity 1/3 · AnnoyingThe 12 V battery can discharge within a few days when the car is parked, faster in cold weather. A 12 V battery that is too weak can trigger warning lights and prevent the car from starting, even when the traction battery is charged. A maintenance charger is advised if the car is left idle for a long period.

Faulty right rear seat belt retractor (recall)
Manufacturer recallThe right rear seat belt retractor may malfunction and reduce restraint in a crash. The affected Springs were produced at the Shiyan plant in China between 26 April and 4 October 2022; Dacia replaces the part free of charge (the Spring's first official recall campaign).
Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Charger unit fault: warning light and impossible start (recall)
Manufacturer recallAn error in the DC/DC converter associated with the on-board charger can trigger a safety fuse that disconnects the battery: a warning light comes on and, in the worst case, the car will no longer start. Dacia has launched a campaign to reprogram the on-board charger, with a control unit update if needed, covered by the manufacturer.
Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Inspection checklist
Dacia Spring I — inspection checklist
Things to check
- Have a Dacia dealership check, using the serial number (VIN), that the recalls have been carried out: right rear seat belt retractor (Springs produced from April to October 2022) and charger unit reprogramming.
- Inspect the underside of the car: rear axle assembly reinforcements (rust on examples produced before 15 November 2022) and 14-inch wheels (rust or cracks until September 2023).
- Ask for a state-of-health (SOH) certificate for the traction battery.
- Test charging on an AC wallbox and, if the car has the option, DC fast charging.
- Check the 12 V battery and make sure no warning light comes on at start-up.
Questions to ask the seller
- Have the recalls (rear seat belt, charger reprogramming) been carried out? Do you have the documents?
- Do you have a recent SOH certificate for the traction battery?
- Has the car ever been stuck with a warning light on or a flat 12 V battery?
Test-drive tip: read the fault codes
A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Euro NCAP rating of the Dacia Spring?
One star, obtained in the test published in December 2021: Euro NCAP found weak chest and pelvis protection for the driver in the offset frontal impact, and the absence of driver-assistance systems weighed on the rating. We found no newer result, and in particular no zero-star rating in 2024: the facelifted Spring has not been tested again, and according to Parkers Dacia does not plan a new test before 2027. The 2021 rating therefore remains the most recent. The zero-star rating of 2021 concerns the Renault Zoe.
What range does a used Dacia Spring have?
In WLTP: 230 km for the 44 hp 2021 version, 220 km for the 65 hp Extreme from 2023 (L'argus) and 225 km for the facelifted Spring according to Automobile Propre. L'argus estimates the real range at 180-200 km in mild conditions, and considerably less on motorways.
Is the traction battery under warranty?
According to L'argus, the battery is warranted for 8 years or 120,000 km, with replacement if its state of health falls below 75%. Ask for the date of first registration to find out what remains.
