Verdict

Buy with care

GT grand coupé available with a naturally aspirated V8 (LC 500) or as a hybrid (LC 500h), and as a convertible from 2020. The LC 500 and 500h from 2017-2019 were recalled for the low-pressure fuel pump (risk of engine stalling): check that the recall has been carried out. The model has not been tested by Euro NCAP, and the boot is very small.

Known faults

Low-pressure fuel pump (recall)

Manufacturer recall

In 2020 Lexus recalled LC 500 and LC 500h models (2017-2019): the low-pressure fuel pump can stop working, with a risk of engine stalling. The pump is replaced free of charge with an improved version. Check with the serial number that the recall has been carried out.

Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Manufacturer recalls

See the official list on RappelConso (new tab) (French government recall site: category “Automobiles et moyens de déplacement”, search “Lexus LC”). A dealer for the brand can also check, using the vehicle identification number (VIN), that recalls have been carried out.

Inspection checklist

Things to check

  • Check with a Lexus dealer, using the VIN, that the low-pressure fuel pump recall has been carried out.
  • Check the full service history and invoices.
  • Check the condition of the tyres and brakes.
  • Test the infotainment screen and all the driver assistance systems.
  • Convertible: test raising and lowering the roof and check that it is watertight.

Questions to ask the seller

  • Has the fuel pump recall been carried out? Do you have proof?
  • Has the vehicle been serviced in the Lexus network, with invoices?
  • How many owners has it had, and how has it been used (road, track)?

Test-drive tip: read the fault codes

A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.
