Our conclusion
Two city cars with 5 Euro NCAP stars (2019 for the Clio V, 2017 for the Polo VI). The Clio has the better reliability score (4/5 against 3.5/5): the Polo was the subject of a recall for a rear left seatbelt that could come undone, and its DSG7 gearbox is prone to jerking and failures. The Clio offers more room (391 L against 351 L in petrol) and is also available as a hybrid. If you choose a Polo, prefer a manual gearbox and check that the seatbelt recall has been carried out.
