  1. Defective brake booster pump (recall)

    Manufacturer recall

A faulty plastic brush holder can stop the brake booster pump motor, leading to a loss of assistance and therefore longer braking distances. The European recall concerns Camrys (AXVH71) built between 26 April and 6 June 2019 (car-recalls.eu). Toyota Australia recalled Camry Hybrids for the same type of pump.

Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

  2. Low-pressure fuel pump (recall)

    Manufacturer recall

The low-pressure fuel pump located in the tank can stop working, with a risk of the engine stalling. Toyota Australia recalled Camry Hybrids to replace it; a similar US recall concerns 2018-2019 Camrys. The exact scope in France is not documented: to be checked with Toyota.

Read fault codes

An OBD scanner plugged in under the steering wheel shows stored fault codes, even with warning lights off: useful during the test drive.
