Verdict

Buy with care

Urban SUV rated 5 Euro NCAP stars in 2019, with a 422-litre boot in the petrol versions. A European recall concerns the locking of the rear bench backrest on cars built between September 2019 and August 2020: check with the serial number that it has been carried out. I found no reliable statistics on mechanical faults specific to this model.

Recall: rear bench backrest that does not lock

Manufacturer recall

On Jukes built between September 2019 and August 2020 (around 56,000 vehicles worldwide), the locking button of the rear bench backrest can prevent the backrest from locking. In an accident, the occupants and luggage in the boot may then not be properly restrained. The repair consists of replacing the locking parts at an approved workshop (about 15 minutes according to ÖAMTC).

Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Manufacturer recalls

See the official list on RappelConso (new tab) (French government recall site: category “Automobiles et moyens de déplacement”, search “Nissan Juke”). A dealer for the brand can also check, using the vehicle identification number (VIN), that recalls have been carried out.

Inspection checklist

Things to check

  • Have a Nissan dealer check with the serial number that the rear bench locking recall has been carried out, especially if the car dates from September 2019 to August 2020.
  • Check the rear backrest locks correctly after folding it down and then raising it again.
  • Test drive in varied conditions: the 1.0 turbo is described as noisy when pushed, and the DCT gearbox is slower than the manual.
  • Check the service book and invoices.
  • Hybrid: measure the usable boot (354 L) against your needs.

Questions to ask the seller

  • Has the rear bench backrest recall been carried out? Do you have proof?
  • Have there been any repairs under warranty (electronics, gearbox)? Do you have the repair orders?
  • Has the servicing been followed, with invoices?

Test-drive tip: read the fault codes

A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.
