Verdict
Dropside pick-up with all-wheel drive, the first pick-up to receive 4 stars from Euro NCAP, in 2015. User feedback is fairly limited (RAC); the faults reported mainly concern the EGR and the particulate filter. Check the door latch recall (vehicles built between December 2015 and July 2016).

Known faults
EGR and particulate filter: warning lights, limp mode
Severity 1/3 · AnnoyingOwners of L200s from this generation report repeated work on the EGR valve and particulate filters that clog; an owner of the 2.4 4N15 describes EGR/DPF fault codes with limp mode, resolved by reprogramming the engine computer. These testimonies are anecdotal, with no frequency statistics.

Recall: door latches failing in high heat
Manufacturer recallUK recall from 2018: the latch locking mechanism can malfunction in high heat and the door can open while driving. It concerns single-cab and double-cab L200s built between December 2015 and July 2016; Mitsubishi replaces the complete mechanism. One source gives a narrower window (10 December 2015 to 5 June 2016): check the VIN with a Mitsubishi dealer.
Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Real monthly cost
Fuel, insurance, maintenance and depreciation, excluding finance. Move the slider to match your mileage. How it is calculated
| Fuel or electricity | €202 |
|---|---|
| Insurance | €66 |
| Maintenance | €26 |
| Depreciation | €250 |
| Total per month | €544 |
⚠ Estimates to treat with caution
- NEDC consumption (older, more optimistic than WLTP) as no WLTP figure is published: fuel is probably slightly underestimated.
- Maintenance: published servicing price plus an estimated allowance for tyres and brakes.
- Maintenance: budget of a closely related model.
- Depreciation estimated at 12% of the median price a year, as no year-by-year valuation is usable.
Calculation details (12,000 km a year)
- Fuel (diesel)€202
2.4 DI-D 181 automatique version: combined consumption of 7.5 L/100 km, increased by 15% for real-world driving, at 2.347 €/L, for 1,000 km a month.
7.5 × 1.15 × 2.347 € × 10 = €202
Diesel price: French national average on 7 October 2026.
- Insurance€66
Average monthly premium published for this model by insurance comparison sites (comprehensive cover when stated). Your premium depends on your profile.
- Maintenance€26
Servicing and wear parts (tyres, brakes) for 12,000 km a year, per month.
- Depreciation€250
Value lost in a year by a typical example, from the valuation gap between two years, per month.
Inspection checklist

Things to check
- Have the VIN checked at a Mitsubishi dealer for the door latch recall (models from December 2015 to July 2016).
- Read the fault codes and check the condition of the EGR and the particulate filter (warning lights, limp mode).
- Try the automatic gearbox when cold and warm, and the engagement of the 4x4.
- Check the chassis, the underbody and the load bed (site or off-road use, accumulated mud).
- Inspect the tyres (cuts) and the bodywork (scratches).
- Ask for the complete service book: the L200 requires more frequent servicing than some rivals (RAC).
Questions to ask the seller
- Has the door latch recall been carried out (vehicle built between December 2015 and July 2016)?
- Has any work been done on the EGR or the particulate filter? Do you have the invoices?
- What use has the vehicle had (site work, towing, off-road), and is the servicing up to date?
Test-drive tip: read the fault codes
A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.
