Verdict

Buy with care

A 4-seat convertible derived from the Chrysler 200, sold in France with a single engine: a 2.4 petrol producing 170 hp, paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. It has not been tested by Euro NCAP and was subject to an airbag recall (ORC module): check this on the car before buying. Few documented reliability reports.

Known faults

Airbag recall: occupant restraint module (ORC)

Manufacturer recall

A recall (Rapex alert 47/2017, November 2017) affects Flavias built between August 2010 and February 2014: a fault in the ORC module can cause the airbag and seatbelt pretensioner to deploy incorrectly in an accident (car-recalls.eu). Alvolante also mentions airbag faults covered by manufacturer recalls and advises checking that the repairs have been carried out.

Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Monthly cost by item
Fuel or electricity€231

Depreciation€96
Total per month€427

⚠ Estimates to treat with caution

  • NEDC consumption (older, more optimistic than WLTP) as no WLTP figure is published: fuel is probably slightly underestimated.
  • Insurance: brand average, as no average is published for this model.
  • Maintenance: published servicing price plus an estimated allowance for tyres and brakes.
  • Depreciation estimated at 12% of the median price a year, as no year-by-year valuation is usable.

Fuel (petrol)€231

2.4 170 BVA6 version: combined consumption of 9.4 L/100 km, increased by 15% for real-world driving, at 2.14 €/L, for 1,000 km a month.

9.4 × 1.15 × 2.14 € × 10 = €231

Inspection checklist

Things to check

  • Have a dealer check (using the chassis number) that the ORC airbag recall has been carried out.
  • Test the electric fabric roof (opening and closing, about 28 seconds according to Alvolante) and check it for leaks.
  • Try the 6-speed automatic gearbox both cold and warm: smooth shifts, without jerks.
  • Ask for the service book: Lancia parts and dealer network are rare, so a complete history is valuable.
  • With the roof down, the boot is reduced: check that it suits your needs.

Questions to ask the seller

  • Has the airbag recall (ORC module) been carried out? Do you have proof of the visit to a dealer?
  • Where was the car serviced, and do you have the invoices?
  • Has the roof ever been repaired or has it shown any leaks?

Test-drive tip: read the fault codes

A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.
