Known faults
Electronic faults: multimedia, driver assistance, 12 V battery
Severity 1/3 · AnnoyingFiches-auto reports multimedia screen freezes, loss of Android Auto and a 12 V battery that can go flat after several weeks standing; one owner cited saw a collision alert and a fuel gauge corrected by a software update at Hyundai. CarVerif mentions Android Auto disconnections reported by owners. Few reviews, so these are indicative only.

Recall: fuel pump (loss of power, stalling)
Manufacturer recallRecall 51DT07: the fuel pump impeller can swell under the effect of heat and fuel, rub against the pump walls and cause a loss of power or even the engine cutting out. Concerns i20s (as well as the i20 N and Bayon) built between 1 April 2021 and 3 December 2022. The pump is replaced free of charge at a Hyundai dealer; the serial number can be checked on the Rappel Conso site.
Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Inspection checklist

Things to check
- Have the serial number checked at a Hyundai dealer or on Rappel Conso: fuel pump recall 51DT07 (built 1 April 2021 to 3 December 2022).
- Test the multimedia screen and the Android Auto connection; check that software updates have been carried out.
- Check the condition of the 12 V battery and cold starting.
- DCT version: test drive in town to spot jerking or hesitation when changing gear.
- iMT version: check how the clutch operates when pulling away and when accelerating.
- Check the service book and the invoices.
Questions to ask the seller
- Has the fuel pump recall been carried out? Do you have proof?
- Have any electronic problems (multimedia, Android Auto, safety alerts, battery) been dealt with?
- Does the car have a complete service book?
Test-drive tip: read the fault codes
A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.

Frequently asked questions
What rating did the Hyundai i20 (2020) achieve at Euro NCAP?
Four stars out of five. Euro NCAP did not test the i20 itself: it is very close to the Hyundai Bayon, tested in 2021 (76% adults, 82% children, 76% vulnerable road users, 67% driver assistance), and Euro NCAP considers that this rating also applies to the i20.
What is the boot capacity of the Hyundai i20 III?
352 litres according to L'argus and Fiches-auto testing (351 litres quoted by Hyundai at launch).
Is the Hyundai i20 III reliable?
Fairly, according to What Car?: it ranks 6th out of 24 small cars in its reliability survey (98.1%). A fuel pump recall does, however, concern cars built between April 2021 and December 2022.
