Verdict

Buy with care

Spacious MPV, rated 5 stars by Euro NCAP in 2013. The points to watch are the panoramic roof on models built between October 2013 and July 2014 (recall), the PowerShift automatic gearbox of the 1.5 TDCi, the wet timing belt of the 1.0 EcoBoost and the upkeep of the diesels (DPF, injectors). A manual version with a complete history is the safest choice.

Known faults

Wet timing belt on the 1.0 EcoBoost

Severity 3/3 · Serious

On the 1.0 EcoBoost, the belt runs in oil and can degrade, releasing debris that may block the oil strainer and damage the engine (Parkers). Apexx Engines describes the same fault on the Transit Connect, which shares the platform. Insist on proof of replacement.

PowerShift automatic gearbox: jerking and hesitation

Severity 2/3 · Costly

On the 1.5 TDCi with the PowerShift automatic gearbox, Autodoc reports abrupt gear changes, delays or a complete failure, especially in cold weather and between 60,000 and 80,000 km (sometimes from 40,000 km). IsItAGoodCar describes jerking when pulling away, hesitation and a transmission warning light, and estimates the repair at £800 to £2,500.

Diesel: clogged particulate filter and injector leaks

Severity 2/3 · Costly

Guides report that on the diesels the particulate filter can clog in urban use (appearing between 60,000 and 100,000 km according to Autodoc) and that the injectors can leak and should be checked (IsItAGoodCar). One owner of the 1.5 TD 120 reports an injector replacement at 135,000 km (Caradisiac).

Panoramic roof that can come loose (2013-2014 recall)

Manufacturer recall

Ford recalled Tourneo Connect and Transit Connect vehicles built between 4 October 2013 and 14 July 2014: contamination during the preparation for bonding could weaken the fixing of the glass panoramic roof, causing wind noise, water leaks and, in the worst case, the roof coming loose (AutoInsider, UK recall R/2016/244). Check using the serial number that the recall has been carried out.

Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Manufacturer recalls

See the official list on RappelConso (new tab) (French government recall site: category “Automobiles et moyens de déplacement”, search “Ford Tourneo Connect”). A dealer for the brand can also check, using the vehicle identification number (VIN), that recalls have been carried out.

Real monthly cost

Fuel, insurance, maintenance and depreciation, excluding finance. Move the slider to match your mileage. How it is calculated

Monthly cost by item
Fuel or electricity€130
Insurance€53
Maintenance€43
Depreciation€159
Total per month€385

⚠ Estimates to treat with caution

  • NEDC consumption (older, more optimistic than WLTP) as no WLTP figure is published: fuel is probably slightly underestimated.
  • Maintenance: published servicing price plus an estimated allowance for tyres and brakes.
  • Depreciation estimated at 12% of the median price a year, as no year-by-year valuation is usable.
Calculation details (12,000 km a year)
Fuel (diesel)€130

1.6 TDCi 115 version: combined consumption of 4.8 L/100 km, increased by 15% for real-world driving, at 2.347 €/L, for 1,000 km a month.

4.8 × 1.15 × 2.347 € × 10 = €130

Diesel price: French national average on 7 October 2026.

Insurance€53

Average monthly premium published for this model by insurance comparison sites (comprehensive cover when stated). Your premium depends on your profile.

Maintenance€43

Servicing and wear parts (tyres, brakes) for 12,000 km a year, per month.

Depreciation€159

Value lost in a year by a typical example, from the valuation gap between two years, per month.

Inspection checklist

Things to check

  • Check using the serial number that the panoramic roof recall has been carried out (vehicles built from October 2013 to July 2014).
  • Ask for invoices for the timing belt (1.0 EcoBoost, diesels) and for regular servicing.
  • Long test drive of the PowerShift version: cold start and manoeuvres without jerking or warning lights.
  • Diesel: check there is no engine or particulate filter warning light and no signs of injector leaks.
  • Test the sliding doors, the air conditioning and the condition of the battery.

Questions to ask the seller

  • Has the panoramic roof recall been carried out at Ford?
  • Has the timing belt been replaced, when, and at what mileage?
  • Has the PowerShift gearbox or the particulate filter been repaired?

Test-drive tip: read the fault codes

A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.
