Verdict

Buy with care

Five-seat people carrier with a large boot (around 800 L), offered in petrol, LPG and diesel. The 1.5 dCi is the best-rated engine in the sources, with points to check (EGR valve, turbo hoses); the 1.2 TCe 115 should be avoided or thoroughly checked (oil consumption, engine failures). Never tested by Euro NCAP, and two older recalls concern the steering and the rear seat back.

Known faults

Oil consumption and failure of the 1.2 TCe 115

Severity 3/3 · Serious

The Dokker's 1.2 TCe 115 is reported for oil consumption that can lead to engine failure; Carverif notes the absence of an oil level warning light. Dokker owners report an engine out of service at 70,000 km or a failure at 144,703 km (2014 Dokker). L'argus reports a class action by motorists against Renault over excessive oil consumption on the 1.2 TCe engines.

Clogged EGR valve (1.5 dCi)

Severity 1/3 · Annoying

On the diesel Dokker, the EGR valve can clog, causing loss of power and an engine warning light; Comptoir Utilitaire places the problem from around 60,000 km. Preventive cleaning is advised; if the valve fails, an owner of a Dokker Blue dCi mentions replacing it.

Recall: steering track rod too fragile (2016)

Manufacturer recall

Fiches-auto lists a February 2016 recall of around 6,400 vehicles (Dokker, Sandero, Logan, Lodgy) for replacing a steering track rod considered too fragile. A safety defect that should in principle have been corrected: confirm this for the specific vehicle.

Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Recall: rear seat back mounting (2014)

Manufacturer recall

A 2014 recall concerns the Dokker and Lodgy (around 2,400 vehicles according to Fiches-auto, 2,360 according to Rappels Produits) for insufficient tightening of the rear seat back latches. A safety defect that should in principle have been corrected: confirm this for the specific vehicle.

Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Manufacturer recalls

Real monthly cost

Fuel, insurance, maintenance and depreciation, excluding finance. Move the slider to match your mileage. How it is calculated

Monthly cost by item
Fuel or electricity€119
Insurance€44
Maintenance€32
Depreciation€87
Total per month€282

⚠ Estimates to treat with caution

  • NEDC consumption (older, more optimistic than WLTP) as no WLTP figure is published: fuel is probably slightly underestimated.
  • Maintenance: published servicing price plus an estimated allowance for tyres and brakes.
  • Depreciation estimated at 12% of the median price a year, as no year-by-year valuation is usable.
Calculation details (12,000 km a year)
Fuel (diesel)€119

1.5 dCi 90 version: combined consumption of 4.4 L/100 km, increased by 15% for real-world driving, at 2.347 €/L, for 1,000 km a month.

4.4 × 1.15 × 2.347 € × 10 = €119

Diesel price: French national average on 7 October 2026.

Insurance€44

Average monthly premium published for this model by insurance comparison sites (comprehensive cover when stated). Your premium depends on your profile.

Depreciation€87

Inspection checklist

Things to check

  • 1.2 TCe 115: ask for the service invoices and the history of oil top-ups, check the oil level (no warning light); if in doubt, prefer a diesel.
  • 1.5 dCi: check there is no engine warning light, the condition of the turbo hoses, and the service history of the EGR valve.
  • 1.5 dCi: ask for proof that the timing belt has been replaced (Carverif and Comptoir Utilitaire insist on this point).
  • Have a dealership confirm, using the serial number, that the 2014 (rear seat) and 2016 (steering track rod) recalls have been carried out.
  • Check the air conditioning and the airbag warning light, which Autodoc flags as weak points.
  • Check whether the car has ESP, whose standard fitment depending on the trim is not confirmed by all sources.

Questions to ask the seller

  • Do you have the service invoices, with the dates and mileage of the oil changes (and of the belt on the diesel)?
  • Do you need to top up the oil between oil changes?
  • Were the manufacturer's recalls (rear seat, steering) carried out at a dealership?

Test-drive tip: read the fault codes

A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.

Check the history

Before paying, check the administrative status (lien, objection, declared claims) and the mileage recorded at the roadworthiness test.

Read fault codes

An OBD scanner plugged in under the steering wheel shows stored fault codes, even with warning lights off: useful during the test drive.
