Verdict

Good choice, check first

Small people carrier rated 5 Euro NCAP stars in 2012, with no centre pillar thanks to its sliding rear doors. The sensitive points are the PowerShift automatic gearbox (jolts reported) and the belt running in oil on the 1.0 EcoBoost, whose service history must be checked. Manual versions remain the preferred choice.

Known faults

PowerShift gearbox: jolts and harsh gear changes

Severity 2/3 · Costly

The PowerShift dual-clutch automatic gearbox (notably on the 1.6 Ti-VCT 105) is the most cited fault: jolts when stopping or pulling away, hesitations, harsh shifts, sometimes an inability to engage a gear, often from 20,000 miles according to Autodoc. Auto Express notes that severe jolts have affected some versions and that lasting remedies are hard to find; Honest John reports jolts that return after the control module is replaced.

Wet timing belt of the 1.0 EcoBoost

Severity 2/3 · Costly

On the 1.0 EcoBoost, the belt runs in oil and can degrade over time, risking contamination of the lubrication circuit (WhoCanFixMyCar, Parkers). WhoCanFixMyCar puts the average replacement cost at around 893 GBP. Require proof of replacement and consistent servicing.

Battery and electrical faults

Severity 1/3 · Annoying

ADAC statistics reported by Car-recalls.eu cite the battery (2013-2015 registrations) and the fuel pump (2013) among common faults. Auto Express indicates that electrical faults are the most frequent, and WhoCanFixMyCar advises checking the battery and alternator in case of slow starting.

Real monthly cost

Fuel, insurance, maintenance and depreciation, excluding finance. Move the slider to match your mileage. How it is calculated

Monthly cost by item
Fuel or electricity€121
Insurance€67
Maintenance€34
Depreciation€61
Total per month€283

⚠ Estimates to treat with caution

  • NEDC consumption (older, more optimistic than WLTP) as no WLTP figure is published: fuel is probably slightly underestimated.
  • Insurance: average for a closely related model (other generation or same platform).
  • Maintenance: published servicing price plus an estimated allowance for tyres and brakes.
  • Maintenance: budget of a closely related model.
  • Depreciation estimated at 12% of the median price a year, as no year-by-year valuation is usable.
Calculation details (12,000 km a year)
Fuel (petrol)€121

1.0 EcoBoost 120 version: combined consumption of 4.9 L/100 km, increased by 15% for real-world driving, at 2.14 €/L, for 1,000 km a month.

4.9 × 1.15 × 2.14 € × 10 = €121

Petrol price (SP95-E10): French national average on 7 October 2026.

Insurance€67

Average monthly premium published for this model by insurance comparison sites (comprehensive cover when stated). Your premium depends on your profile.

Depreciation€61

Inspection checklist

Things to check

  • Long test drive of the PowerShift version: starting and manoeuvring at low speed without jolts or warning lights; if it shudders, walk away.
  • 1.0 EcoBoost: require invoices for the timing belt replacement and for regular servicing.
  • Test the cold start and the condition of the battery.
  • Check the operation and closing of the sliding rear doors, including on a slope.
  • Look for traces of moisture in the boot and under the carpets.

Questions to ask the seller

  • Has the timing belt of the 1.0 EcoBoost been replaced? When, and at what mileage?
  • Has the PowerShift gearbox been repaired or updated (clutch, control module)?
  • Has the battery been changed, and is the service book up to date?

Test-drive tip: read the fault codes

A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.
