Verdict

Buy with care

7-seat people carrier rated 5 stars by Euro NCAP in 2011, with a boot of 454 to 458 litres in the 5-seat configuration. The driver airbag recall should be checked using the chassis number. Chevrolet left Europe at the end of 2015: the brand is no longer sold there and servicing is handled by other General Motors dealers (Opel).

Known faults

Driver airbag recall

Manufacturer recall

The inflator propellant of the driver airbag can deteriorate over time: in the event of deployment, fragments can be thrown out and injure the occupants. The recall covers Orlandos built between June 2010 and May 2016 (Car-recalls.eu). An owners’ forum thread mentions the Takata airbag on the Orlando. Check with the chassis number at a dealer before buying.

Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

Manufacturer recalls

See the official list on RappelConso (new tab) (French government recall site: category “Automobiles et moyens de déplacement”, search “Chevrolet Orlando”). A dealer for the brand can also check, using the vehicle identification number (VIN), that recalls have been carried out.

Real monthly cost

Fuel, insurance, maintenance and depreciation, excluding finance. Move the slider to match your mileage. How it is calculated

Monthly cost by item
Fuel or electricity€180
Insurance€56
Maintenance€35
Depreciation€60
Total per month€331

⚠ Estimates to treat with caution

  • NEDC consumption (older, more optimistic than WLTP) as no WLTP figure is published: fuel is probably slightly underestimated.
  • Maintenance: published servicing price plus an estimated allowance for tyres and brakes.
  • Depreciation estimated at 12% of the median price a year, as no year-by-year valuation is usable.
Calculation details (12,000 km a year)
Fuel (petrol)€180

1.8 141 version: combined consumption of 7.3 L/100 km, increased by 15% for real-world driving, at 2.14 €/L, for 1,000 km a month.

7.3 × 1.15 × 2.14 € × 10 = €180

Petrol price (SP95-E10): French national average on 7 October 2026.

Insurance€56

Average monthly premium published for this model by insurance comparison sites (comprehensive cover when stated). Your premium depends on your profile.

Depreciation€60

Inspection checklist

Things to check

  • Have the driver airbag recall checked with the chassis number (Opel/Chevrolet dealer or RappelConso).
  • Try the three rows of seats and check that the rear seats fold properly.
  • Check the clutch pedal (play, spring) on manual versions.

Questions to ask the seller

  • Has the driver airbag recall been carried out? Do you have a certificate?

Test-drive tip: read the fault codes

A warning light that is off proves nothing: a fault may have been cleared just before the viewing. A Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, plugged in under the steering wheel and read on your phone, shows stored codes and whether all emissions readiness tests have run since the last reset.

Before you buy: check and equip

Check the history

Before paying, check the administrative status (lien, objection, declared claims) and the mileage recorded at the roadworthiness test.

Read fault codes

An OBD scanner plugged in under the steering wheel shows stored fault codes, even with warning lights off: useful during the test drive.

Frequently asked questions

Did the Chevrolet Orlando get good crash test results?

Yes: it received 5 stars from Euro NCAP in the 2011 tests, with six airbags as standard and ISOFIX anchorages. Pedestrian protection is its weakest point.

Can a Chevrolet Orlando still be serviced in France?

Chevrolet announced in 2013 the end of its sales in Europe by the end of 2015, promising to honour warranties and keep parts available for 10 years, with servicing taken over by Opel/Vauxhall dealers (What Car?).

What is the boot capacity of the Orlando?

454 to 458 litres depending on the version in the 5-seat configuration (L’argus listings), and 7 seats in total.
