Our conclusion
The Mégane IV earns a better reliability score (3/5 against 1.5/5). Its documented serious fault is limited to the early 1.2 TCe 130 (oil consumption), whereas the 308 II combines the faults of the 1.2 PureTech and 1.5 BlueHDi engines with faulty AdBlue tanks on its diesels. Both have 5 Euro NCAP stars (2015 for the Mégane, 2013 for the 308). The 308 has the larger boot (420 L against 384 L). On the Mégane, go for the 1.3 TCe and the Blue dCi 115; on the 308, the 1.6 and 2.0 diesels.
