Our conclusion
The Yaris IV is far safer mechanically: reliability score of 5/5, against 2/5 for the 208 II, whose 1.2 PureTech (timing belt, oil consumption) and 1.5 BlueHDi (timing chain) engines have recognised serious faults. It also earned 5 Euro NCAP stars (2020), against 4 for the 208 (2019). Both boots are small (286 L for the Yaris, 265 L for the 208). Our advice: the Yaris, provided the hybrid system reprogramming recall has been carried out.
