PureTech 130 BVM6

  1. Degraded 'wet' timing belt (1.2 PureTech)

    Severity 3/3 · Serious

On the 1.2 PureTech, the timing belt runs in oil and can break down. Its debris clogs the oil strainer, which causes oil pressure to drop and can destroy the engine. Stellantis extended the belt warranty to 10 years or 175,000 km, subject to servicing conditions, and introduced a new-generation belt in June 2022.

e-HDi 115 ETG6

  1. ETG6 automated-manual gearbox: jerking and slowness (1.6 e-HDi 115)

    Severity 1/3 · Annoying

The ETG6 automated-manual gearbox is judged slow in town by L'argus, and Fiches-auto reports noticeable torque interruptions. Owners report jerking and knocking on gear changes, sometimes persisting after a reset at the dealer.

    Severity 2/3 · Costly

Caradisiac reports a few cases of failed flywheels and clutches on the 1.6 e-HDi 115, which must be replaced, while noting that this remains rare. Testimonies of worn-out clutches on 1.6 HDi engines also appear on Fiches-auto.

BlueHDi 150 EAT6

  1. Cracked particulate filter (2.0 BlueHDi, recall)

    Manufacturer recall

Citroën recalled C4 Picasso II and C4 SpaceTourer cars fitted with the 2.0 BlueHDi built from 1 December 2017 to 18 February 2021 because of a risk of particulate filter cracks. According to L'argus, a reprogramming is enough in most cases; some vehicles require a check, or even replacement of the filter.

Fixed free of charge by a dealer and not counted in the reliability score: ask for proof the work was done (invoice, or a VIN check at a dealer).

BlueHDi 130 BVM6

  1. Premature wear of the timing chain (1.5 BlueHDi)

    Severity 3/3 · Serious

On the 1.5 BlueHDi, the 7 mm timing chain can wear prematurely and, if it breaks, the engine can stop abruptly. The C4 SpaceTourer and C4 Picasso are among the Citroën models concerned by campaign NJ4 (reinforced 8 mm chain if wear is found, otherwise an oil change with suitable oil and a software update). Production dates concerned vary between sources: check the serial number with a Citroën dealer.
